The “Grow More Food” campaign was initiated in India in 1942-43 during the Second World War. The campaign aimed to increase food production to meet the needs of the British Indian Army and also the civilian population. The campaign was launched to overcome the food shortage in India during the war period when the supply of food from other countries was cut off.
The British government in India took various measures to boost food production during the campaign. The government encouraged farmers to use modern techniques and scientific methods to increase crop yield. The government also provided farmers with loans, seeds, fertilizers, and other necessary resources to improve their production. The government also established new agricultural institutions and research centers to study and develop new agricultural practices.
The campaign was successful in increasing the food production in India. The campaign also played an important role in promoting the use of modern agricultural techniques in the country. The campaign served as a precursor to the Green Revolution in India, which was initiated in the 1960s to further increase food production in the country.
