The Correct answer is Raghunath Rao
The correct answer is “Raghunath Rao”.
The Treaty of Surat was signed on 6 March 1775 between the British East India Company and Raghunath Rao, the younger brother of Peshwa Madhavrao, during the First Anglo-Maratha War. The treaty was signed at the English factory in Surat. As per the treaty, the British agreed to provide military assistance to Raghunath Rao in his claim for the Peshwa throne against his nephew Narayanrao. In return, Raghunath Rao ceded the territory of Salsette and Bassein to the British. However, the treaty did not achieve its intended objective as Raghunath Rao was defeated by his nephew’s forces in the Battle of Talegaon, and the British were forced to evacuate Salsette and Bassein.
