Henry Louis Vivian Derozio was born in Calcutta in 1809 and is known for his contributions to the Bengal Renaissance. He was a teacher and intellectual who encouraged his students to question societal norms and think independently. Derozio taught at the Hindu College, which later became the Presidency University, and later at the Sanskrit College.
Derozio died at the young age of 22 in 1831 due to cholera, leaving behind a legacy of inspiring his students to become critical thinkers and promoting intellectualism in colonial India. His followers, known as Derozians, continued his legacy by forming literary and intellectual societies and promoting social and political reform.
