Mukarrab Khan with his large army attacked Sambhji Maharaj with an army of 4000. The 400 Maratha soldiers attacked so ferociously, that Mukarab Khan was taken by surprise. Sambhaji Maharaj along with Kavi Kalash was captured and taken as a prisoner to Aurangzeb who killed him with utmost brutality.
